I had another one with slightly better composition but it was a few inches out of photography. As they say with bird photography, it might as well been 2 miles out of focus.

Triggered remotely :).

Too out of focus... ~Hangs himself.~

The Nikon D40 has crap focusing with only 3 focus points and no in-camera motor.

The D300 however has 3D tracking and 51 focus points :D.

I tried doing this with manual focus and apertures up to f/12 but it was either motion blur or focus blur D:.

maybe I'm going blind..? The bird seems quite in focus and sharp from where I view it. I really like this image, it really seems you've put a lot of time and attention into it, I'd be proud of the accomplishment.

If you look at it full size you can see that the focusing is a few millimetres far as the seeds are sharp but the birds out of focus. In a sharp photo you can individually see the bits which make up the feathers.

Yeah I'm pretty proud of it... I just know I can do a lot better.

But yeah, thanks anyway :).
